50th Wedding Anniversary

It was just 50 years ago this past June 13th that Dick McClintock and Ginger Carter, both OWU class of 1953, were married in a very special Beta ceremony by the late Dr. Seth R. Brooks, St. Lawrence ’22. The ceremony was at the Universalist National Memorial Church in Washington DC.

All of the ushers were OWU Betas and included Dick Davenport ’53 (best man), Norm Slenker ’51, Bob Neff ’53, Dick DeVos ’54, and Milt Irvin ’55 (Dick McClintock’s little brother). There were 22 Betas in attendance, which included one from Kenyon, Joe Culp, a high school classmate of Ginger’s.

Dr. Seth R. Brooks was General Secretary of the fraternity, and Assistant chaplain of US Senate at the time. Dr. Brooks graduated from St. Lawerence College as a proud member of Beta Theta Pi. His profession was as minister of Universalist National Memorial Church. In his first book on Beta history, Dr. Brooks wrote fondly of his first “all Beta” wedding. When all of “his boys” sang during the reception, a big smile came across Dr. Brooks and his face lit up the whole of Washington DC that day. He was a dear friend of Ginger’s parents and she cherishes many fond memories of Seth and his wife, Corrine.

The McClintocks are the proud parents of 1 daughter and 1 son, and grandparents of 5. They reside at 205 Sloane Square Way, Charlotte, NC 28211-2969, and can be reached at telephone number (704) 366-8204 or email at rmac53@mindspring.com.

As a part of their celebration of their 50th , the McClintocks were joined with friends, family and OWU Betas Bob Neff and Ted Chaney.

On the occasion of their 50th, we all wish them a “hip hip hooray” and another happy 50 years to come!
