A Letter From Brother Copper ‘68

To my brothers at theta chapter,

I am written to you to share some recent experience at Ohio Wesleyan, and at the beta house. Like many of you I’m sure, I experienced some confused- and angry-feelings concerning beta and Ohio Wesleyan as we moved through the late 1970s and 1980s.

I feal at the same time disappointed but very defensive inside as I read and reread communication from the university regarding the decision that made beta theta Pi an inactive fratemity. I somehow was convinced that this was a temporary situation and that theta chapter would return as a functioning. Successful, contributing unit on the Ohio Wesleyan campus. Regrettably, I don’t did not become personally involved as other brothers did not became personally involved as other brothers did in trying to restore theta chapter to its previous status on the Hill and as a part of Ohio Wesleyan.

My connecting with OWU has been renewed with my son Andrew’s decision to attend Own. Many memories were restored as we extremely happy with his Choice, through I tried not to influence him in his selection.

As Andy began his first semester at Owu he was exposed to fratemity life and become familiar with members of many of the house. I have shared with him many of my experience and impression of fraternity life-as- a beta- but did not lead him in a particular direction. He did, however become friends with several of the brothers at the beta house and was impressed, also, I saw a relatively small number of men who where committed to beta theta Pi-committed to making beta a strong part of fraternal life-committed to proving to Ohio Wesleyan that theta chapter will survive and be restored to a position of leadership on the campus.

My son is now a sophomore at OWU. He pledge beta and was initiated last year. He really believed in theta chapter –as I do- and is working with his brothers to improve the condition and position of beta at Ohio Wesleyan. The brother at 9 Williams drive are responsive. As I learned last year, they are very eager to learn more about Beta’s tradition and history and to carry on these traditions.

Physical improvements are being made at the house, and more importantly, the fraternal structure of the house is being strengthened by the dedication of our theta brother. I encourage each for you to visit. Theta chapter, meet the brother who are sincerely working to make beta the fraternity of choice. They are eager for your input and involvement, and are progressing very well.

Yours I –Kai-
