An Open Letter To Our Alumni

Dear Alumnus:

Very soon eleven undergraduates of Theta Chapter will reach a milestone in their, as yet, young lives. These eleven, myself included, will receive their Baccalaureate Degrees on Monday morning, June 11.

The following seniors will compose the list of those graduating this spring: James Davies, Charles Ecker, Charles Glander, Pete Halbin, Bob Henshaw, Don Jefferis, Samuel Pardoe, Ronald Pettegrew, Olin Stephens, Thomas Tatham and Daniel Wright.

We are leaving our undergraduate college life with hope for the future, our’s, OhioWesleyanUniversity’s and Theta Chapter’s.

We believe that the days as an undergraduate we have spent at Theta have enriched our lives beyond all measure of definition. And each of us prays, “Thank God I’m a Beta!”

But as we have spent four years at Ohio Wesleyan, so have we seen also the development of a situation which imperils the future of Theta.

As you know, no doubt, two fraternities have constructed and are  residing in new houses very near the new freshman men’s dormitory. Within the next two years, several more fraternity chapters will-there is no doubt about it-move to the same general area. And next fall the University will open another new dormitory in this same area, and will cause all freshman men to live in these two dormitories.

We have already seen one rush week here where the frosh men were impressed by the men in Theta Chapter, but were discouraged by the distance from campus, and particularly from their dormitory, to our chapter house.

All of us who are graduating hope that there won’t be many more such rush weeks in Theta’s future.

We have resolved to support Theta in every way after graduation, and we hope that you, our new “alumni brothers,” will join us in supporting Theta chapter whenever we may be called upon to do so.

And now, for a brief moment, I should like to tell you of the satisfaction, the enjoyment, and the experience I have derived from my work as Alumni Secretary and Editor for Theta chapter, I am certain that I have gained in this work for the past four years.

I hope that I have made the Theta Data what you want in a chapter alumni newspaper. This has been my goal.

I want to introduce your new Editor to you at this time. He is Doug Austin of Birmingham, Michigan. Editor Austin is a freshman, and will probably edit the Data until his graduation.

It is my sincere hope that each of you will lend Doug your support, particularly in such matters as address changes and information for a new Theta Directory.

If you like your paper let Doug know.

Thanks for everything. Thank God I am a Beta!
