Andy Durate ’63 Memories

I am sending two photos. One pictures Yours Truly being “accompanied” by John “Tiny” Duval ’64, and I am in the midst of the celebrations during “help week”. With a cow’s bell hanging from my neck and in the middle of a recital of John Donne’s poem, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”. I later passed on that same bell to Edward “Rip” Van Winkle ’66, but do not know where said bell ended up … all I can tell you is that it was a unique experience to carry it around, below my shirt for one whole week.

… Can anybody add to this paper (bell) trail? Regards from Venezuela. I don’t know how much longer I will be here before taking my belongings and getting out … it isn’t easy to decide these migrations after the age of 60…

This photo is of a freshman “retreat” at Lakeside, OH at Dick Kinney’s cottage, January ’62 … days before our initiation. Pictured are Jim Manchester, Bob Marshall, Keith Moore and me. … not all of us, very sober or lucid …
