On Saturday , October 19.1996,at the Ohio Wesleyan University Athletics Hall of Fame ceremonies , Todd R Benware ’90 was inducted into the hall of fame for his significant achievement in the sport of golf.
A two time All America golfer and NCAC player of the year , Todd was the first player to win the NACAC tournament twice. He made an immediate impact on the Bishop golf program, fining a 147 to win the OWU/strimer tournament in his college debut. He went onto win NCAC player of the year honours as a sophomore , winning the individual title in a playoff after finishing with 225 .he then fired a 232 at the NCAA division III tournament to tie for th20th and take honourable mention All America laurels in helping the bishops to a fourth – place NCAA finish. He repeated as NCAC player of the year as a junior, again winning in a playoff, after shooting a 154. He carded a 311 at NCAA Division II for a 23rd– place tie and his second straight honourable mention All-America citation as the team finished third in the national tournament. He fired 151 as part of a school- record 580(for 36-hole,4and 5man total)at the Marietta Invitational. He won the Muskingum and Denison – Capital titles as a senior and was second –team all-league, then shot a 312 at the NCAA Division III tournament as the bishop carded a school recorded 1202 in positing their best ever national finish with a second –place tie.
After working as a golf professional in the Graham N.C,area over the last five years, Todd is currently working on obtaining his PGA tour card. Congratulations to Todd, and good luck as you tackle the next challenge in your golfing profession. You have brought honour to your school and fraternity for your skill in sport and your personal high standards of excellence. Your brothers take great pride in your achievements and well-deserved recognition.
