Oxford Cup Banquet, Return of Historic Memorabilia, Alumni Involvement With Chapter By Brian Fedorko ’95, Chapter President
I am proud to announce that the chapter has made great strides to become worthy of winning the Sisson Award at the next convention. We expect a great group of men to join our ranks in the spring. with a pledge class of 15 or more, the chapter will grow substantially for the first time in two years.
The fall semester was marked by several noteworthy events. Pledges, undergraduate brother and alumni celebrated a day of brotherhood on oxford on October 29 at the grand opening of the new administrative office. The Oxford Cup Banquet was the perfect way to end a perfect day. I encourage everyone to visit this magnificent building.
We recently sponsored the Third Annual American Heart Walk to raise money for the American Heart Association. Brothers walked over five miles through Delaware to show their commitment and support for continued research in this area.
A 1923 Intramural Bowling Trophy was sent to us by Tim Fitzgerald’85, who is now living in the Houston area. It’s been polished and look great. Thanks, Tim! the 1950s composites that we received last spring now have frames, thanks to House Father Ed Ulmann. Trophies and composites are all part of the Theta Chapter history, and we really do appreciate having them in the house for all to share and appreciate. Such items can be returned at any time of the year.
Fred Barends, Kenyon ’83, has joined us by filling the vacant faculty adviser position. His enthusiasm for Beta and the Theta Chapter quickly spread among the brothers, and we anticipate a strong, long-lasting relationship.
We are currently trying to fill three other adviser positions to strengthen specific areas of chapter operations. They include a rush adviser, pledge education adviser and a financial / chapter adviser. Alumni residing within 50 miles of Ohio Wesleyan are encouraged to become involved with the house by taking one of these positions. Anyone interested can get more information by calling District Chief Dave Wright at 614-486-0691, ext.2, 9am to 5pm weekdays. Another opportunity to become involved with the chapter, no matter where you live, is by participating in our fund raising activities. In addition to the campaign to generate funds for major house renovation, we are soliciting donation to help defer the cost of six ritual robes: three officer robes and the three star robe. The robes cost $95 each and will be purchased by January 1995 regardless of whether we have volunteers to sponsor them. To sponsor a robe, contact me at 614-368-2667 Sponsor ‘ names will be listed on a plaque in the chapter hall.
Of course, another way to become involved with the chapter is to simply call or visit. This past fall semester, we enjoyed meeting and speaking with alumni from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. It was good seeing you. We always look forward to seeing those who have helped to make Beta Theta Pi great at Ohio Wesleyan.
