One of the men Theta Chapter is deeply indebted to is Dean Joseph J. Somerville, De Pauw, ’12, the “Father Flanigan of Ohio Wesleyan’s Boy’s Town”. His sage advice and fatherly counsel have helped the chapter, both as a group and as individuals, over many of the rough milestones of college life.
To those who do not know the Dean, it might seem that the Betas have an unfair advantage over the other fraternities in having the Dean of Men as their faculty advisor. However, everyone has found that the Dean “leans over backwards” to be impartial in all fraternity matters. Although he is not a member of this chapter, Dean Somerville has been one of its most loyal supporters. He can always find time to drop up to the house to see how the chapter is getting along. He is never too busy to help out in an emergency.
