Douglas Victor Austin ’59,

Douglas Victor Austin ’59, died on July 4, 2005, after a long battle with cancer. He earned both his master’s and Ph.D. from Indiana University. After teaching at Indiana and the University of Michigan, he became an economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of leveland. He returned to teaching in 1969 at the University of Toledo. Doug received his law degree in 1978. He officially retired professor emeritus in 1989. During his career he authored 17 books and over 800 articles in the area of banking and corporate conflict. He was the lead witness before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on bank reform. Doug was significantly involved in church, community, and haritable organizations. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gayle: six children and their five spouses. C.
