David E. Tilton ’47 is president of The Columbus Forge and Iron Co. “Dave” was in the military form 1942-46 and was in the Air Force Reserves from 1951-55. He is a member of the King Avenue United Methodist Church, the American Ordinance Society, the American Society for Metals, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, the Goodwill Industries of Columbus and Central Ohio, the Athletic Club of Columbus, the Faculty Club and the Presidents Club of the Ohio State University.
In 1968 Ohio State University and David established the nation’s first professorship in mechanical metallurgy which bears the name of David’s father, Earl M. Tilton. David is active in the United Appeal Campaigns, the Kiwanis and rehabilitation of parolees. He also serves on the Noise Task Force, the Virbration Task Force -and the Forging Industry Assoc. Wage and Employment Committee. During the last 24 years, David has negotiated his company’s contracts with two unions and has never had a strike. In two “Private Citizen” vacation trips to Europe, he made an effort to look for new things in health and rehabilitation.
