As expected, this semester has been a learning experience for Theta chapter. The brothers have responded well to the new rules and regulations necessary for our existence. We adopted a new pledging process this past semester, which we used to pledge one man: Eric B. Canty ’02 of Grahanna, Ohio. He has recently been initiated, and should be a strong asset to this chapter in the future.
Spring semester looks promising for a strong pledge class. Through new rushing techniques, a strong rush chair, and a devoted effort by all members, we have met quite a few men interested in joining an organization such as ours. With the adoption of a mandatory dry rushing period, we were forced to find new ways to initially meet these gentlemen. Luckily we have had the advice and counseling of a few recent alumni, and several others interested in helping us. Tony Pedela, Pat Puhl, and of course Marty Haskell have been a constant source of ideas and advice that have proven extremely helpful.
Although living in a dry house has been a huge, and slightly difficult, change in our lives, several benefits have developed from it. The house has been cleaner and more well kept than any time I can remember. And brothers have been involved in many more activities outside of the house than in past years. We have made ourselves known to the community by participating in several community service projects. The chapter even hosted our own charity flag football tournament.
We have recently been released of all social restrictions placed on us by the IFC. Spring semester will once again combine a social existence on campus with our current activities, and hopefully a strong pledge class. We are looking forward to spring semester and the benefits it holds.
