Eighteen Men Pledged by Theta for 100th Anniversary Class

The undergraduate chapter pledged 18 top men for the 100th anniversary class Of 1953 during, the rushing season at the beginning of school this fall.

Under the direction of vice. president Bill Littick for the second year, th chapter managed to clear the field by taking the top freshman as pledges. Other members of the Rush Committee headed by Littick arc: Dan Ransom, Bill Long, Henry Anderson, Bix Newhard, Robert Johnson, Bob Freitag, and Tom Taylor.

The committee and the chapter pledged men that boast a combined total Of approximately 60 high school varsity letters, five class of flees, and seven memberships in national honor societies.

Purdy comes from a Beta family at the University of Michigan. He has two cousins and an uncle from that chapter.

Dick Eiken won the Mitre Cup of DuPont Manual high school in Louisville, while Davanport was awarded the Harvard honors. V. Baker Smith won the Michigan award for all schools in Washing  ton while Ted Chaney copped an award for the highest scholastic average for four years among the men in his high school. Three pledges went to Buckeye Boys’ State, and all saw service in honor tries and clubs while in high school.
