The fall intramural season was one of the best in recent years for Theta chapter, though it ended in bitter disappointment. The football team, having shutout all but one opponent and winning the divisional championship was disqualified before the championship game due to an ineligible player. A team the Betas defeated subsequently won the league crown.
The volleyball team also met with considerable success, going undefeated until the divisional championship game when they lost a hard fought match to the eventual league champions.
The Betas were also well represented in varsity sports this fall though lacrosse in the spring remains as the Beta dominated sport. Brother Bill Bouton led the soccer team to the Ohio conference crown. He was the top goal scorer on the team and was elected by his teammates to cocaptain next years squad.
Three Beta pledges saw action on the OWU football team. They were Brian Welch, Tad Arnold, and Bernard “Buzz” Friend. Brothers Rick Vince, starting tackle for the Bishop varsity, was sidelined this season with a knee injury.
The winter intramural scene looks equally bright for Theta chapter. The bowlers, having all returned after narrowly losing out in the championship match last year fully expect to go all the way this season. The basketball team, though handicapped by lack of height, is also expected to challenge for the IM crown.
