George T. Kocher ’57

George T. Kocher ’57 … on Jan 30, 2003 in his home from cancer complications. George was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity at OWU. During his military service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he translated Chinese broadcasts and documents. He went on to work for the National Security Agency during the war. He was a financial planner with American Express Financial Advisors in Lima, Ohio, at the time of his death. Before becoming a financial planner, George ran the family lumber yard for more than 20 years. He developed several area subdivisions. George was a member and former president and district governor of the Lima Rotary Club, former president of the Lost Creek Country Club, and was on the board of directors of the Lima Area Chamber of Commerce. He was one of the original investors in the Sugar Creek Golf Club. George is survived by his wife, Peggy; his daughter, Theresa; his son, George Jr.; four sisters, Patricia Gotway, Linda Lap;e, Janelle Kocher and Florence Lundin; and three grandchildren.
