Dick Gregg, Columbus sophomore, was a member of the 1942 undefeated freshman basketball squad. Last fall, he donned the helmet and shoulder pads, and went on the gridiron.
Although it was his first year of varsity football in college, Dick held down his end position like a veteran. His excellent playing ability and unbeatable spirit kept him in the starting line-up for nearly every game. A strong man on defense and equally strong on the offensive, he was one of Gauthier’s valuable players.
When the football season ended, Gregg’s attention went to the basketball floor. The competition for positions were keen, but Dick always managed to get in a good many of the scraps. However, he was handicapped by an ankle injury early in the season which slowed him down. Dick’s ability to handle the ball, and his sharp eye, showed up well on the varsity, but they really shown in intramural competition. As Gregg will be back next fall in the Navy program, it is expected that he will be one of the prominent athletes in both football and basketball.
