This last season Beta was well represented by lacrosse players. Among the leaders were captains John Hildebrand and Bob Sargent. “Hildy,” for the second year in a row, was named to the All-American team. “Sarge,” a two time All-American, was also selected as Mid-fielder of the Year in Division II. This is the highest honor a lacrosse player has ever received at Ohio Wesleyan. For the third year in a row Steve Meinsen was named to the All-American team.
The defense consisted of six Betas. Captain elect Brian Welch, Brian Kingston, Tom Obrect, Steve Perkins, Mike Havran, and Matt Brechiemer. Without the great success of the defense, O.W.U. would have never ended up as number 3 in the nation. The mid-fielders, which may have been the best in the mid-west, consisted of captain-elect Chuck Norwitz, John Bremmerman, Bob Harman, Jim Reis, and Steve Meinsen. Fortunately, all of these middies will be returning.
The attack consisted of three Betas who could put the ball in the net. Craig Ferrer plalyed very consistent ball allyear long. Luke Tennis, a senior, started for three years and ended last year with 76 pts. John Hildebrand was the other attackman.
At the goalie position there were 3 Betas. Starter and first team All- Midwest was Scott “Moon” Keen. Backing “Moon” up was Pete Zonino and Brad Pratt. They both hope to be playing this year.
Fortunately for OWU, lacrosse and the Beta House, there are many good freshman lacrosse players. With hard work OWU lacrosse may do as well as last year.
