This year’s pledge class is large and widely diversified, but is striving for a common goal, the improvement of the fraternity. Due to the large number of pledges (20) it would seem unlikely that a group of this size could knit such a strong bond of friendship in so short a time. Our pledge class has done just that, and by overcoming this hurdle it is fast becoming a vital part of the Beta Chapter at Ohio Wesleyan. As a result of the small number of pledges taken last year, Beta has seen hard times. This year we hope to reverse this trend, putting Beta in its original position of strength on the hill. This can only be accomplished if the actives and pledges coordinate together, in an attempt to better the house.
Like most pledge classes, we expect to make Beta a more pleasant place to live. However, the class of ’77 does not plan to be all talk and no action. We hope to put in the much needed patio in the rear of the house. We are still short of funds, but in the near future we hope to have the necessary money. Our next goal involves the partial renovation of the house. We plan to replace some of the existing carpets, furniture, and curtains, making it more appealing not only for future pledges, but also for the alums of our chapter. So I encourage any alums to visit the house.
In closing, the class of ’77 is very much looking forward to becoming an active part o f Beta Theta Pi. We hope to remain a close unit and to make Beta the best house on the hill at Ohio Wesleyan.
