Re-colonization of Theta on Ohio Wesleyan’s campus?

Dear Marty and Brother Theta’s,

I was sorry to read of the passing of Dick Hindman ‘51 in the January issue of Theta Data. If I recall correctly I was his pledge master. There are not too many of us returning WW-II GI’s from the years of 1946-1948.

It is of interest that in the January issue, as well as in past issues , mention was made regarding the re-colonization of Theta on Ohio Wesleyan’s campus. Conventional wisdom tells us that unless some positive action is taken soon it will never happen. What steps in terms of negotiations with Ohio Wesleyan administration and the national fraternity in Oxford needs to be taken? I notice Ohio State, Purdue and Willamette are scheduled for re-colonization in 2014-2015. Has anything been done to contact Trevor Voss Beta director of Expansion UCLA ‘10 in Oxford?

In addition if a group of Founding Fathers is formed for re-founding Theta can Theta take back the Beta House. It is on Ohio Wesleyan property – and I and many other brothers paid to have it built. What is the role of the Theta House Company; does it have any funds, does it have any ownership to the Beta house built in 1961? What are the legal ramifications?

There are still a few of us around from the early years, but I believe firm;y that any action taken has to be by those of recent years. When I was last in the beta house it was in a mess; beer on the floors, the rooms a mess, the bathrooms half destroyed – one could predict Theta would be thrown off campus. It is time to re-colonize Theta as “men of principle” living up to the standards of responsible conduct values established by National, and the pride, and character instilled by Mama Linn.

I trust this message will instill some action.

Yours ‘- kai –
