Fall term proved to be one of the most successful terms Theta chapter has seen in many years. As many of you know Theta chapter liad beeii in the midst of a membership drought which was compounded by many actives and pledges not returning to school. This fall we pledged 23 men who all seem to have the spirit and desire to not only continue the fraternity tradition, but also to strengthen it here at OWU.
Not only did membership improve, but the house itself received some much needed attention. The dining room was redone, while the barroom was finally made into a functional social area, rather than a dark backroom bar. Unfortunately, the porch we reported was to be built this summer, was never completed due to the lack of a suitable contractor. Hopefully the University will be able to locate one his summer.
We are all very grateful for the increased alumni support and involvement. Unfortunately the chapter rnanagernent of this newsletter slacked off and we are therefore late with this issue of Theta Data. In order to correct this situation, we have formed an office to be in charge of this publication and we will be publishing an issue at the end of each term.
Your response to the directory has also been substantial. We feel that the directory will be a great service to all Theta brothers, and hope that all have returned the information sheets and addresses. If you haven’t please do so quickly. Your support of the directory and Theta Data is greatly needed and appreciated.
Homecoming brought many actives and alums together for an exciting evening of reminiscing. This term we expect an even larger turnout for initiation. Its not only great fun for all, but it gives the alums a chance to meet the present chapter and for the chapter to get a sense of how it used to be.
Overall fall term rejuvenated the whole fraternity at Theta Chapter. Membership is strong and with continued alumni support, should remain strong. I hope that any of the brothers who haven’t returned to the house will make an earnest effort to become re-acquainted with the house. To quite something have heard at every Beta convention I’ve attended, “Beta Theta Pi is more than a four year experience.”
