Successful lM Bosketball Seoson

Though it is still irksome to consider, we ended an outstanding season with a last second loss created by the confusion of officials and time keepers. This carefully nutured dynasty was the culmination of many hours of individual practice accompanied with unquestioned natural talent. The outstanding scorer for this team overloaded with creative and gifted players was the undoubtedly superb marksman and ball control specialist, Bruce “The Spoon” Warshaw. His outstanding team leadership helped create a team tempo of 110 percent effort be it on offense or defense. This group of unparalleled players deserved better than the bitter position of runner up due to error that was beyond their control. The ability of each man on the team was so superb as to attract attention of surrounding college basketball coaches hoping to be able to lwe at least one of these outstanding young athletes from their
brothers and their university. But fear not, though eloquent were many of the coaches in their promises of luxurious life and future aspirations of NCAA Championships with teams built around one of these young men, none of the devoted brothers stumbled in his belief in Beta by being swayed into leaving. All were true to their brothers proving the tight unity created here at the Theta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi.

The final score of the now famous championship game, racked with many questionable calls was 93-92. Iosing by l point was best termed by amazing strategist and coach John Spofford, a sophomore, “We won in spirit, we know we’re number one no matter what the scoreboard said at the final buzzer. If we’d had ten seconds or 1 second left, we would have beaten them, we wanted it more.”

Looking forward to next year the team will be supplemented by the newly activated brothers. Adding to our ranks are three men each in excess of six feet and adapt in all facets of basketball skill. To mention them quickly, the tallest at six foot six one a half inches is Kendell Morrison, a freshman. Possibly the strongest and surprising the most agile. Kendell will control the backboard with six foot five inch Keith Kariosakos, a deft ball handler and able to hit with pinpoint accuracy from 25 feet out and in. Finally at six foot four inches Chris Dantis who with Panther like movement and speed adding to his supreme jumping ability make him the most dangerous player on the team.

In retrospect this year’s team played to their utmost ability often calling on a very talented substitutei who were able to maintain the same exemplary ability to control the game as their starting brothers. This was a great year for Beta basketball except for the last game. Next year’s hopes are very good with the prospect of additional talent giving the Beta Dragons an invincible team and hopefully a long lived dynasty in intramurai fame.
