The 1997 Major league Baseball season left America with memories of a great season. Numerous Theta BetaS took past in these memories, ones that will last a lifetime.
In July, Ram’ Mahjoub ’98 and Eric Eickh ’00 took a trip to beautiful Jacobs held in the heart of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The weekend started with Fan fest, a celebration of the national pastime, followed by the All-Star workout day that features the home run derby on Monday. The festivities WCK eapped off with the All-Star game itself on Tuesday. Runty and Eric saw a well-pitched battle won by the American league make it even more exciting. Cleveland’s own Sandy Alomar Jr. hit a home run that won the game and earned the Most Valuabk Player award for him. The excitement that the Theta Betas and Cleveland enjoyed at the All-Star game continued with the advancement of the Cleveland Indians into the playoffs.
In the American League Championship Series, the Theta chapter was divided between two groups of baseball fans: those cheering on the Indians and those rooting tbr the Baltimore Orioles. This friendly rivalry has developed in t he da_st)11997 and has passed on to the younger men in the chapter. Once again, Theta Betas traveled to the -Jake” in Cleveland to cheer oit their respective teams. Eventually the. Indians defeated the Orioles in a well faught series, making the house both jubilant and saddened, simultaneously.
As the Indians moved on into the 1997 World Series, the excitement of the Cleveland fans in the chapter grew in hopes that the Indians would capture their first Championship in 49 years. When the series shifted to Cleveland with the Indians tied at one game apiece with the Florida Marlins, five men in the house were able to go to game four, braving the bitter cold of the World Series. They were hi-k because they saw thy only game that the Indians won. The Indians’ eventual loss of the Series left many Theta Betas and Indians fans waiting one more year or a World Series Championship.
