No longer does the basement of 39 West Lincoln Street resemble the Black Hole of Calcutta!
The new “lower level” no longer is called the cellar, for the undergraduate chapter succeeded in giving it a much-needed face lifting.
One of the last steps taken last spring by the chapter was to vote that each member at school donate Five (5) dollars from money earned during the summer months towards funds to rejuvenate this part of the house.
A Delaware contractor stopped water seepage in the basement rooms and then the undergraduates rolled up their sleeves to be gin painting and touching up. The former recreation room (now called the west lounge if you please) was repainted in blue and pink.
The ceiling was done in a soft rose and the walls were finished in a starlight blue. The floor was paint ed a utilitarian gray with the fire place a brick red.
Furnishings for the room were found by visiting auctions and various rooms of the house. During the summer, the chapter wrote to many famous Betas for auto graphed pictures to be placed in the room. Almost all of these loyal brothers responded and the resulting hall of fame had great effect during Rush Week.
The hallway was whitewashed by chapter Tom Sawyers and a plaster board ceiling gave a much needed lift. The back room was painted green and the ping pong table placed there.
All in all, the chapter is proud of the new look given the basement and is anxious to have your ,comments during Homecoming!
