George L. Earle, Jr. ’36, divisional\u00a0manager of the Earle Equipment\u00a0Company, is a member of the Rotary\u00a0Club, Hi-Twelve Masonic Club and the\u00a0Traverse City Shrine Club. “K-nock”\u00a0offers these comments: “Hearing of \u00a0Dick Darrow’s sudden death was\u00a0cause for triggering my memory. He\u00a0was a Phi Gam from class of ’36. I\u00a0remember so well his former wife,\u00a0Nelda Darling, class of ‘Bb, speaking\u00a0about the death of Wendell Butchei\u00a0’35, who died in the 1960’s. Nell and\u00a0Butch were friendly in their college\u00a0days. I sensed in her remarks that she had always felt very kindly towards\u00a0Butch. This conversation took place\u00a0at our last class reunion of 1971.<\/p>\n
“An additional item of interest\u00a0might be that our daughter, Mayrene,\u00a0has graduated from Northeastern\u00a0University in Boston, Mass., in 1g24. Her very first job was with the\u00a0Physical Education Department of\u00a0Wellesley College. Her major\u00a0responsibility is with the crew and basketball. She’s brought Wellesley\u00a0up from the cellar to become one of\u00a0the contenders in the Women’s Ivy\u00a0League Schools. She’s been offered\u00a0another two year contract. Then she\u00a0will be going for her master,s degree\u00a0at some school not yet decided upon.\u00a0“After losing everything in a\u00a0financial disaster down in the state of\u00a0Maine plus owing thousands of dollars in loans that must be repaid\u00a0sometime, I appreciate the opportunity\u00a0of being able to work each\u00a0day. I expect that I will be able to do\u00a0so, until I am called into the next\u00a0world with much promise of a life to\u00a0come.<\/p>\n
“I miss hearing anything about\u00a0Howard Wiant, who was a transferred\u00a0Beta to OWIJ. He is now a minister in\u00a0Canton, Ohio. I drove through Canton\u00a0several years ago and talked with his\u00a0secretary, but never had a follow-up\u00a0from he or his wife, Betty. He would have been a member of the class of\u00a0’35.<\/p>\n
“At Christmas time I always exchange\u00a0cards with Bill Pickering,\u00a0John Mitchell, Bob Beckett and Burt\u00a0Elder. 54 W. Lincoln will always be the heart and soul of Theta Chapter to\u00a0me.
