The 1976 O.W.U. Soccer team’s\u00a0success is due to the overpowering\u00a0strength of eight Beta brothers. On\u00a0the line, the team has All-American\u00a0candidate Rick Brearton ’78. Rich is\u00a0looking for his second twenty goal\u00a0season this year. Complementing Rick\u00a0on the line is John Spottord ’78. John\u00a0leads the league in assists for two \u00a0years and hopes to repeat again this\u00a0year. At midfield, Don Minkler’79 is\u00a0the main man. His outstanding offense\u00a0and solid defense have made\u00a0him one of the conference’s best\u00a0halfbacks. Don also has added six\u00a0goals and five assists. Playing next to\u00a0Don is Mark Sommers ’78. “Mones” is\u00a0coming back from knee surgery last\u00a0year with nothing but desire and\u00a0hustle. He is the team’s most improvedplayer\u00a0by far this year. Pledge\u00a0Charles Bucharach ’80 is filling the\u00a0back up role in style by not allowing a\u00a0goal in eight games so far. The team\u00a0cannot exist without bench strength.\u00a0The Betas are the main force on the\u00a0bench as well. Lineman Joe Holden\u00a0’79 and Pledge Rich Peters ’80 have\u00a0combinedforS goals this year. Filling\u00a0in at midfield is Neil Ronk ’79 who is\u00a0doing an outstanding defensive job.\u00a0The team has the conference\u00a0championship game left to play and\u00a0we know that the Beta brothers will be\u00a0very instrumental in the outcome.<\/p>\n
