Once again the brothers of Beta\u00a0Theta Pi excited the Ohio Wesleyan\u00a0campus with two major parties\u00a0during the winter term, warming up the otherwise frozen campus. The\u00a0first of these parties was the annual\u00a0Pledge Formal, attended by 42\u00a0pledges and their lovely dates. All sat\u00a0down to a steak dinner, served by\u00a0their active brothers. After the dinner\u00a0the active brothers joined in singing\u00a0of many of the more noteworthy songs\u00a0of Beta Theta Pi. When the singing\u00a0ended the band hired for that night\u00a0started playing and didn’t stop till one a.m. The pledges and their dates were\u00a0joined by their active brothers and\u00a0their dates till the crowded dance\u00a0floor was filled with exuberant\u00a0masses of people jostling each other\u00a0in inebriated bliss. It was agreed upon\u00a0by all that the party was a great success, the band being considered\u00a0excellent in playing of enjoyable\u00a0dance music. But the outstanding part\u00a0of the night was the reading of a poem\u00a0by President Layland Silvas. Based\u00a0upon the ageless Christmas poem,\u00a0“Twas the Night Before Christmas,”\u00a0President,Silvas rnounted upon its\u00a0theme, creating the poem titled\u00a0“Twas the Night Before Hell Week,”\u00a0foreshadowing the impending week of terror for the pledges.<\/p>\n
The second traditional party held\u00a0during the winter term creating\u00a0great excitement and anticipation\u00a0throughout the Beta House, including\u00a0its newly activated brothers, was the\u00a0Tom Jones party. The otherwise dull\u00a0campus was transformed that night into a mardi gras of pandamonium\u00a0through the generosity of the Brothers\u00a0of Beta Theta Pi by allowing non\u00a0brothers and dates to enjoy the excellent\u00a0band, after dinner had been\u00a0eaten at the house. The highlight of\u00a0the party, or rather highlights, were\u00a0the appearance of the three pigs,\u00a0penned within walls of hay, that gave\u00a0many people their first view of\u00a0farmyard life up close. They were\u00a0well treated and cared for by the\u00a0brothers that night receiving all food\u00a0and water needed for their survival,\u00a0though some over enthusiastic people were apprehended in the act of\u00a0sharing their ample amounts of beer\u00a0and liquor with the very willing pigs.\u00a0All in all it was generally agreed\u00a0upon throughout the campus that\u00a0through the generosity and good will\u00a0of the brothers of Beta Theta Pi\u00a0the eampus was able to enjoy two\u00a0exciting and well timed parties,\u00a0benefiting the many study worn\u00a0students on the campus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
