This fall through the unparalleled\u00a0unselfish devotion of many brothers\u00a0of the Theta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi,\u00a0the intramural football team reached\u00a0the plateau of their efforts by clinching\u00a0the top of their division\u00a0decisively. To mention a few of these\u00a0outstanding brothers, Lee Silvas,\u00a0playing center, consistantly overpowered\u00a0his opponents with bruising\u00a0violent blocking, leaving many times\u00a0a huge opening in the other team’s\u00a0defense. In the position of quarterback\u00a0we were blessed with two\u00a0brothers of such stellar qualities as to\u00a0make it almost impossible to choose\u00a0which was to play at any given time.\u00a0Robert Sargent, one of the outstanding\u00a0pair, was blessed with\u00a0the outstanding ability to scramble\u00a0and pass with pinpoint accuracy;\u00a0reminicent of Francis Tarkenton the\u00a0Minnesota Vikings and NFL’s\u00a0greatest quarterback. But with this\u00a0great gift he was equalled in ability by\u00a0the amazing Steve Miensen. Brother\u00a0Miensen’s passes were marvelous to\u00a0watch, often floating in the air for\u00a0what seemed minutes only to drop\u00a0directly into the waiting arms of one\u00a0of our fleet receivers who never had to\u00a0miss stride in catching the deadly\u00a0accurate pass. Ever mindful of\u00a0protecting these two quarterbacks\u00a0was brother Brian Welch playing\u00a0guard. With unmatched tenacity\u00a0brother Welch constantly punished\u00a0his opponents unmercifully, preventing\u00a0the sacking of our quarterbacks\u00a0throughout the entire season\u00a0and allowing them to employ their\u00a0gifted passing ability to its utmost.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
