Though it is still irksome to consider,\u00a0we ended an outstanding season\u00a0with a last second loss created by the\u00a0confusion of officials and time\u00a0keepers. This carefully nutured\u00a0dynasty was the culmination of many\u00a0hours of individual practice accompanied\u00a0with unquestioned natural\u00a0talent. The outstanding scorer for this\u00a0team overloaded with creative and\u00a0gifted players was the undoubtedly superb marksman and ball control\u00a0specialist, Bruce “The Spoon”\u00a0Warshaw. His outstanding team\u00a0leadership helped create a team tempo of 110 percent effort be it on\u00a0offense or defense. This group of\u00a0unparalleled players deserved better\u00a0than the bitter position of runner up\u00a0due to error that was beyond their\u00a0control. The ability of each man on\u00a0the team was so superb as to attract\u00a0attention of surrounding college\u00a0basketball coaches hoping to be able\u00a0to lwe at least one of these outstanding\u00a0young athletes from their
\nbrothers and their university. But\u00a0fear not, though eloquent were many\u00a0of the coaches in their promises of\u00a0luxurious life and future aspirations\u00a0of NCAA Championships with teams\u00a0built around one of these young men,\u00a0none of the devoted brothers stumbled in his belief in Beta by being swayed\u00a0into leaving. All were true to their\u00a0brothers proving the tight unity\u00a0created here at the Theta Chapter of\u00a0Beta Theta Pi.<\/p>\n
The final score of the now famous\u00a0championship game, racked with\u00a0many questionable calls was 93-92.\u00a0Iosing by l point was best termed by\u00a0amazing strategist and coach John\u00a0Spofford, a sophomore, “We won in\u00a0spirit, we know we’re number one no\u00a0matter what the scoreboard said at\u00a0the final buzzer. If we’d had ten\u00a0seconds or 1 second left, we would\u00a0have beaten them, we wanted it\u00a0more.”<\/p>\n
Looking forward to next year the\u00a0team will be supplemented by the\u00a0newly activated brothers. Adding to\u00a0our ranks are three men each in\u00a0excess of six feet and adapt in all\u00a0facets of basketball skill. To mention\u00a0them quickly, the tallest at six foot six\u00a0one a half inches is Kendell Morrison,\u00a0a freshman. Possibly the strongest\u00a0and surprising the most agile. Kendell\u00a0will control the backboard with\u00a0six foot five inch Keith Kariosakos, a\u00a0deft ball handler and able to hit with\u00a0pinpoint accuracy from 25 feet out\u00a0and in. Finally at six foot four inches\u00a0Chris Dantis who with Panther like\u00a0movement and speed adding to his\u00a0supreme jumping ability make him\u00a0the most dangerous player on the\u00a0team.<\/p>\n
In retrospect this year’s team\u00a0played to their utmost ability often\u00a0calling on a very talented substitutei\u00a0who were able to maintain the same\u00a0exemplary ability to control the game\u00a0as their starting brothers. This was a\u00a0great year for Beta basketball except\u00a0for the last game. Next year’s hopes\u00a0are very good with the prospect of\u00a0additional talent giving the Beta\u00a0Dragons an invincible team and hopefully a long lived dynasty in\u00a0intramurai fame.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
