Winter initiafon was held on Sunday,\u00a0January 3, 1943, for thirteen men of the\u00a0Beta Theta Pi. Initiation was held early\u00a0in accordance with the accelerated program\u00a0of the university, and also because of the\u00a0uncertaincy of the length of time that the\u00a0brothers would be in school.<\/p>\n
“Work Week”, modern counterpart of\u00a0“Hell Week”, began on New Year’s Day\u00a0and ran thru Saturday night. Among the\u00a0projects accomplished were the washing\u00a0and repainting of the kitchen, the painting\u00a0of several of the upstairs rooms, and the\u00a0waxing of the woodwork.<\/p>\n
Alumni attendance at initiation was very\u00a0small due to war conditions, however, the\u00a0chapter worked harder than usual to present the best initiation in past years.<\/p>\n
An unusual occurence took place at that\u00a0initiation, one of those things which happen\u00a0once in a lifetime. Dr. Chester A Hansen,of Newcomerstown, was initiated with his\u00a0son, Chester, Jr., a member of the freshman\u00a0class. Dr. Hanson was a member of the local at North Dakota at the time it petitioned for a chapter of Beta Theta Pi. He\u00a0graduated before the petition was granted, however, and he had never gone back to\u00a0be initiated.<\/p>\n
When Chet was pledged, Dr. Hanson\u00a0asked if he could be initiated, too, and 30\u00a0permission was granted by the Board of\u00a0Trustees. Dr. Hanson was entered on the\u00a0roll of the North Dakota Chapter.<\/p>\n
The entire pledge class wanninaccz.:\u2022January 3rd, except Max Smith, who was\u00a0depledged, Torn Orr, who requested not to\u00a0be initiated until after the war, and Dick\u00a0Johnson, who was initiated on November\u00a027th, before his induction into the army.<\/p>\n
Spring Initiation was held May 13th for\u00a0four of the mid-year pledge class. All were\u00a0initiated but Victor Medley, who was de-pledged.<\/p>\n
This made a total of eighteen men initiated in Theta Chapter in 1942-43.<\/p>\n
