A Sept. \u201908 note from Russ Schanely\u2019s daughter to Maribeth Amrhein Graham \u201955 …<\/em><\/p>\n

Dear Mrs.Graham, \u2026
\nMy name is Laurie Schanely Hanchuruck and my dad was Russell Schanely. I just received (forwarded) your recent letter to dad, and I am sad to inform you that dad passed on July 23rd. He had been fairly healthy (and his usual cranky) up until the past few months. He had told friends of his at the end of last year, that he wanted to live to be 80 (which he was in January) but didn\u2019t expect to live until August (very creepy) \u2026 he had been caring for mom – who has dementia. (We had planned to move her in with us, in CT, after he passed but unfortunately, we were unable to keep her safe and she is happily being cared for in an Alzheimer\u2019s Assisted Living Facility.)\u00a0Maribeth (sister) graduated from Wittenberg College\u00a0in OH and started a PhD\u00a0program at Yale, but then\u00a0decided to go to the U of Pa.\u00a0and study veterinary medicine.\u00a0She is a veterinarian, living\u00a0in Australia (about two hours\u00a0outside of Melbourne). She\u00a0has two sons – Tom – who will\u00a0be 18 shortly and is in trade\u00a0school studying welding, and\u00a0Chris who just turned 14. (She\u00a0had a daughter, Susan, who\u00a0sadly passed away at six weeks\u00a0of age – she would be 16). She\u00a0was here for a month following\u00a0dad\u2019s passing and has just\u00a0returned to Australia.<\/p>\n

I graduated from Ohio Northern U. and am a pharmacist with the Veterans Admin. (My husband graduated from law school at ONU). Our oldest daughter, Katie, is 21 and a senior (honor student) in Library Science at Kutztown Univ. in PA (where mom got her BS and MS in library science). Katie just rode her bike from Providence RI to San Francisco building houses for Habitat for Humanity. Our son, Timothy Russell, is 19 and is a freshman at Franklin Pierce Univ. in NH – he will be a criminal justice major – but is mostly there to play lacrosse. Our youngest, Molly, 14, just started her freshman year in high school – she has danced for the last 11 years (she also sings) – and she is a goalie on the girl\u2019s lacrosse team. Dad was very proud of all of them! I\u2019m sure dad would have been thrilled to hear from you … he spoke of his OWU friends often – and that is our sad update.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
